Lost Forest: The Other Side of Decarbonization (2022-)​​​​​​​

This project examines the contradictions embedded within contemporary environmental policies. When I first encountered a mega solar power plant spreading across what had once been forest, I experienced a profound sense of shock and loss. As someone who has long held a deep reverence for nature, the sight was profoundly unsettling.

 

Solar energy is widely embraced as a clean solution for decarbonization. Yet the construction of large-scale solar facilities often requires deforestation, landscape transformation, and the disruption of ecosystems. Many of these sites remain largely invisible within everyday life, quietly expanding beyond public awareness.

 

Using drone photography, I document forests that are gradually disappearing beneath the expansion of solar infrastructure. By contrasting vast fields of solar panels with the scarred forests destroyed for their construction, these images express the sheer violence that humans inflict upon nature in the name of clean energy.

 

Forests are more than scenery. They sustain ecosystems, shape cultural memory, and connect generations across time. Through this project, I hope to bring global awareness to the full reality of what is happening across Japan at this very moment.

ロストフォレスト／失われた森 －脱炭素の裏側－

このプロジェクトは、環境保護を掲げながらも、逆説的に自然を破壊する現代のエネルギー政策に光を当てます。私が初めて、かつて森であった場所に広がるメガソーラー発電所を目にしたとき、衝撃と痛みが胸を貫きました。それは、自然への畏敬を胸に生きてきた私にとって耐えがたい光景でした。

 

しかし、多くの人にとって、太陽光エネルギーは脱炭素化のための無害で完璧な解決策として受け入れられています。メガソーラー発電所の建設は、気候変動対策として歓迎される一方で、森林伐採や生態系の破壊を伴います。さらに、それらの多くは周囲から隠されるように巧みに設置されており、私たちがその存在に気づくことはほとんどありません。​私はドローンの目線を通じて、私たちが失いつつある森の姿を捉えています。広大な太陽光パネルと、その犠牲となった自然をひとつの画像の中で対比させることで、自然に対する人間の乱暴さを描き出します。

森林は単なる風景ではない。それらは生態系を維持し、文化的記憶を形成し、時代を超えて世代を繋ぐものである。このプロジェクトを通じて、日本各地で今まさに起きているこの現実のすべてを、世界に広く知らしめることができればと願っています。
