萬波一水 ／ Shape of Truth (2021-) 

 

 

People have worshipped waterfalls for a very long time. I have a special feeling for waterfalls, too. They show a truth of life.

A stream flows lazily and suddenly it drops into the air at the top of the waterfall, ripped apart it plunges down to crash into the bottom. Sometimes the stream winds and flows down on the rocky surface. Every waterfall eventually becomes one again in the plunge pool. Then the water transforms back into clear water flowing peacefully again as if nothing has happened at the top. 

Challenges occasionally come up in life. But it is just a part of life and everything has an end. I just accept whatever happens and live in the present days honestly. Perhaps visiting waterfalls and facing them is to find a truth of life for me.

滝は古くから日本人にとって信仰の対象だった。私にとってもまた特別な存在だ。真理を知る生命体のように見えるからである。

淡々と流れてきた水は滝口で突如空中に投げ出され、バラバラに散りながら落ちて行く。ある滝では何条にも別れて曲がりくねりながら岩肌をなめて行く。だが、どの滝の水も最後は滝壺でひとつにまとまる。そのとき水は透明に戻り、何事もなかったように再び静かに流れ始める。

生きていく中で私たちにはさまざまな困難が起こる。しかし、どんなこともいずれは収まる。すべてを受け入れてただ自分に正直に生きる。さまざまな滝を訪ねて対峙することは、私にとって人生の真理を探す旅なのかもしれない。
